PROFILE OF HON. TEBOGO DANIEL BUTHELEZI – MAYOR OF DITSOBOTLA

With quite an impressive and rather substantial CV, it is impossible to sum Hon. Mayor Buthelezi up in just one page. What follows is therefore only a brief outline of his life. 

Tebogo Daniel Buthelezi was born on December 26, 1959 at Jan Kemp Dorp. As someone with a passion for human development, he started his career as an educator in 1979 and has quickly stepped up the ladder, having been appointed as the principal of E.H. Mogase Primary School since 1990.  During his career, he has amongst other things initiated the building of classrooms for the school and as Chairperson of the Bodibe Community Development Forum, his inputs led to the erection of Lekgetho Special School.

As a hardworking and highly motivated person, Mr. Buthelezi achieved no less than 5 tertiary qualifications. In no particular order, he obtained his Teachers’ Certificate at Taung Teachers Training College, BA Degree at Vista University, 5 courses in BED (HONS) Guidance and Counselling at the University of North West and Certificates in the Management and Development of Municipal Finance at the University of Witwatersrand.

In addition to that, he attended numerous courses in School Management, Administration, Development, Finance, Human Resource, Disciplinary Procedures, Dispute Resolution, Labour Law and Quality Assurance.

As an avid sportsman, he was the founder Secretary and/or -Chairperson of various sport associations like Athletics North West, Bodibe Itsoseng School Sport Association, Lichtenburg District School Sport Association and NOWESSA Development Committee.

Supplementary, as an ex-officio member of the Lichtenburg Community Policing Forum, Mr. Buthelezi played a significant role in building good relations between the Blydeville community and the SAPS and therefore assisted in crime reduction.

Mr. Buthelezi’s history in political participation began in the Students Christian Movement. Since then he has served the African National Congress in positions such as Sub-Regional Secretary and Branch Co-ordinator, canvassing and campaigning for the cause.  Later he was elected Ward Councillor for the term 2006 to 2011.  During this term he served on Sub-committees such as Finance and Budgetary Committee, Infrastructural Development Committee, Council Oversight Committee and IDP Committee.

On a more personal note, Mr. Buthelezi is married and has 3 children. He loves reading, writing and gardening.  He has a sincere appreciation for nature and the African culture and has with much devotion been serving the Tyrannus Apostolic Church as the current National Secretary..
